Chimps Play Like Human Children

Posted on 17th November 2011 by 039300 in Uncategorized

5 interesting facts:

1.) A recent study of young chimpanzees shows that these animals play and develop much the same way as human children.

2.) The type of social play changed a lot as the chimps grew up, just like humans.

3.) Both chimps and humans use a lot of facial expressions to communicate and make friends.

4.) Both humans and chimps choose peers as their playmates more than those older or younger than they are.

5.) This is the first research comparing the play of humans and chimpanzees.

This article was okay. It was only sort of interesting. There are a lot of studies done comparing humans with primates, so this didn’t really surprise me. The thing that mostly interested me was how they use facial expressions like we do. I never thought that monkeys could use facial expressions to communicate. Humans and primates do have a lot in common, but I didn’t know that we had that much in common. Chimps and human kids playing with their friends the same way… Who knew?

I chose this article because it seemed interesting (even though it didn’t really turn out that way…) and because I like chimpanzees.

Dolphin’s ‘Remarkable’ recovery from injury offers good insights human healing

According to Micheal Zassloff, a dolphins ability to heal quickly from a shark bite with indifference to the pain, protection from hemorrhaging, and near restoration for normal body contour, may offer insights to the care of injuries on humans. The scientist describes his observations of the dolphins healing process, “mysterious.” Much about the dolphins healing process remains unreported and poorly documented. Zassloff explains the dolphins healing process by synthesizing scattered reports of known dolphin biology. Zassloff says its likely that the dolphins blubber is a key aspect to why the dolphins healing process is so unique.

Why I liked this article.

I liked this article because I love animals and it seemed very interesting. There were some pretty cool facts about dolphins and how their healing process works. It was a good article.
